The Forge Adult Classes
Our classes provide a wide exposure to martial arts skills and techniques, including striking, MMA and weaponry. this is designed to produce well-round martial artists who can utilise effective aspects from a wide range of disciplines.
In our club, we are interested in three clear criteria for combative sports and self defence; efficacy, functionality and simplicity. Of course there are techniques that may seem complicated at first but on the whole these three criteria are our pillars upon which both our classes and syllabus are built upon.
Classes consist of training from a core syllabus that is split down into manageable ‘Modules’. Each module is worked on for a set time then the student progresses onto the next. The modules are designed to interweave together eventually giving a student a well honed skill set.
We offer a free lesson for adults classes to help introduce you to our approach to martial arts training.
Stand Up Game
In these classes we practice various arts such as Boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Savate and many other striking arts. However the Stand Up game is not just about striking but also the ‘Clinch’.
The Clinch allows control of an opponent as well as the prelude or set up to takedowns and throws. The Clinch is also integral in dirty boxing techniques as well as the Panatukan (Filipino boxing).
Other areas in the Stand Up game include techniques to help stop a takedown from happening, learning about positioning through superior foot work and much more.
Classes are hard work but fun utilising pad work, bagwork and partner working with plenty of sparring. If you wish to do so you can decide to compete in a multiple of striking events.
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)
If you have arrived at our site looking for Martial arts it is likely that you have heard of MMA through contests such as the UFC. MMA has truly revolutionized the martial art world and shown what is really effective and functional.
The MMA game consists of not only stand up techniques but also clinch, takedowns and throws and of course groundwork. Grappling is a huge and essential part of the game whether in stand up or on the ground so a great deal of emphasis is placed on these aspects in the classes. Training again utilizes numerous training aids and is hard work. However students do often choose to go on and compete in the cage or ring.
These classes are great fun and a student can just train for fitness and fun or to look to build a fighting career.
Weaponry
Here at the Forge we practice weaponry from a number of different cultures and countries. For example we practice Japanese Jo and Bo staff and Filipino stick work from kali. Again functionality and efficacy are key.
Training is often done with protective equipment so as to be safe whilst as realistic as possible. Weaponry classes are about developing respect and understanding of the weapons both in regarding realism and cultural aspects.
Finally a large section of the Weaponry modules is how to deal with weapons whilst unarmed , how to make ‘safe’ escape and other strategies to avoid being harmed.
